Dottie Rambo killed in tragic mishap

Country Music Television is reporting that Dottie Rambo, the prolithic southern gospel music singer/songwriter, was killed on Mother’s Day when the bus she was riding in crashed into a guard rail and went down an embankment. Rambo was the only one on the bus who was fatally injured. Six others are in various degrees of injury.

According to Wikipedia, Rambo wrote over 2500 songs including stellar church athemns “He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs” (recorded by Andrae Crouch) and “We Shall Behold Him” (recorded by Vickie Winans) and “I go to the rock” (recorded by Whitney Houston).

GCM Watch extends condolences to the family of Dottie Rambo.

You may be wondering what this has to do with gay christianity. As we have reported before, the lines between the gay church and the “mainstream” Christianity are being erased quietly by those in the religious music industry. Their websites never list their gay church engagements. While reading on the life of Dottie Rambo, we came across the following exchange on the Soulforce message board. Yes, that Soulforce.

I had to tell ya’ll about my experience this past weekend in Long Beach, CA. My partner and I have only been out a little over a year to our friends and family, and we have gotten involved in a GLBT [gay] church in Houston, TX. They make an annual trek to Long Beach every year for this conference, and I was amazed and astonished at the people they had for speakers One was Peggy Campolo, who unabashedly supports gay rights and has for years. Her husband, Tony, does not however. They had Don Milam, a Christian publisher, who over the past 10 years or so, has been brought to a deeper understanding of God’s grace and how the church has failed in showing it to gays and lesbians. His granddaughter came out about a year ago, and he was put into contact with the pastor( Sandy Turnbull) of Glory Tabernacle Christian Center in Long Beach, where the conference is held, and she helped him come to grips with his granddaughter’s lesbianism. Since then, he has written and spoken about his revelation of God’s anointing of gay Christians. Last but certainly not least, Dony McGuire and Reba Rambo-McGuire and their children, Destiny and Israel, provided the praise and worship. I remember Reba Rambo singing with her parents Buck and Dottie Rambo in my teens. For her and her husband to sing in a gay church, and conference was astounding. The most moving and beautiful things at this conference was Saturday night, when Dony McGuire and Reba Rambo invited all the pastors of gay churches that were there, to come up on the stage, remove their shoes and he and his wife, personally washed their feet apologizing for the years he and his wife, and the Christian church at large had thrown stones , maligned God’s work in Gay churches, and had excluded and thrown out these pastors and their congregations. He and Reba wept as they washed and kissed the feet of these pastors. He said that over the past year, his church has gone through some tough times because he has invited gay people to come in and welcomed them. Several members have left and he has caught a bunch of flack (sp?) because of his inclusion of GLBT people into his church. Needless to say it was a wonderful experience, and I left with hope that maybe the straight churches are slowly coming around and seeing that God is moving mightily in gay churches.

The poster continued:

Reba Rambo is the daughter of Buck and Dottie Rambo, who were Southern Gospel music giants. They were popular among that crowd of people who enjoyed that music. It is not surprising that a lot of people don’t know who they are. The only reason I know who she is, is because I grew up listening to her parents’ music, as well as a lot of other Southern Gospel singers. Reba married Dony McGuire, another singer in that genre, and they more or less left that genre, to pursue a more evangelistic ministry and now have a church in Nashville, called The River.

When I heard that she and her husband had begun a minsitry to GLBT people, it floored me because of her roots. Equally, I was floored to see that Cynthia Clawson and her husband, Ragan Courtney, ( Christian singers and songwriters) support GLBT rights. I told Reba at the conference that my parents had not spoken to me since coming out, and she cried. The foot washing she and her husband did was in no small way one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

Apparently, Rambo’s daughter and son-in-law have been increasingly pushing the false gay christian doctrine. What’s interesting is that the Rambo’s church site (The River) claims that it is a place for people who have been “ousted” from other churches. That seems to be a coded for people who dont want other people to tell them the truth about their sin. The Rambos are under the “covering” of the International Communion of Covenant Churches once headed by Earl Paulk.p>

  1. PF,

I want to expand upon this a little.

We obviously have seen the melt down of the Church in regards to sexuality. Likewise the world also. I am beginning to question the whole 1 to 2 % Homosexual population notion. As a Gen Xer I can tell you that it seems that Homosexuality is becoming quite prevalent. In fact it seems like Gen Y ers took the torch and ran away with it. I am beginning to think this is a curse from God as described in Romans where God is literally giving this whole country over to a reprobate mind. That being said as someone who is younger ( I graduated High School in the 90s) I can attest to the fact that Homosexuality, especially among woman has grown exponentially. I think we are truly beginning to see the hand of the Lord being removed from this country and vast numbers of people(primarily younger) are experimenting in numbers higher than imagined.

  2. It’s rather disrespectful of this blog to capitolize on the death of such a good woman by using it as an opportunity to insult and slur lgbt people. WE are God’s creation, not reprobate, not an abomination.

GCMW: Yes, people are God’s creation, but sin is an abomination to God. we receive no compensation for any writing here, it is simply to inform and equip, therefore there exists no “capitalization”. Our sincere condolences were extended to Mrs. Rambo’s family. The news of the Reba Rambo gay church support is old news which was originally publicized by members of a gay church.

  3. God is sending America to it’s knees we have forgotten what America was founded upon and that was God we need to all fall to our knees and pray that God will have mercy upon us and help us get back to where we once were. Gays are talked about in the Bible and if God says it’s wrong than it’s wrong you cant over look what God says if you truely read and believe the Bible you cant just pick out the parts you want you must believe it all and live by the good book.
If Pastors are called by God then I dont believe God tells them its ok if they thinks Gays are ok. Its wrong they are only out for their money and to say they have 500 or more in church attendance. For Donny and Reba to that they must REALLY want acceptance from everyone it takes a STRONGER person to stand up for God and what the Bible states [homosexuality is] wrong and a disgrace to God and our country.

  4. Keltic,

I visited your website. Your whole site is GAY GAY GAY. It is you who define your whole life by your orientation. We define our life by the Word of God.

    Kyle

  5. Kyle its extremely difficult to fathom the hypocrisy of people like keltic. Just google anywhich way the wind blows and homosexuals are trashing Christians who oppose homosexuality in the most vile terms possible. But when is the last time Keltic or the other of these phoney do-gooders demanded that they stop their slurs and evil words?

We have no personal animus against homosexuals who claim to be Christian. We hate their false doctrine because it is demonic.

    Jesus said it best:

Rev 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

Rev 2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

Notice Jesus didnt say he hated the Nicolaitanes, just their deeds.
Love the sinner, hate the sin. But I forgot gays dont like that. They want you to love them and their sin.

  6. I loved the music of Dottie Rambo and was saddened to hear of her passing, but i am more deeply saddened to read of the compromising of the Gospel by her daughter Reba and her husband.

Yesterday on a christian radio station, here locally, they played the music of Dottie all afternoon. I sat listening at my computer, recalling back to the early 80’s after i came to Christ and how much her songs were a part of my life.

Pastor Foster, there are days i wish i could go back to those days; days of ‘ignorant bliss’…I know that sounds strange, but knowing how many are falling away from the truth today, is almost more then i can take.

God bless you Pastor for keeping us informed.

  7. wow, I didn’t think we’d get to name-calling this quickly. Hypocrisy? Phoney?

  8. Jesus said those words in Revelations?

  9. Sorry, meant to write more. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dottie took a very similar view of homosexuality as her daughter Reba. One of Dottie’s best friends is/was Lily Tomlin who, although very quiet about it, is gay and has been in a same-sex relationship for something like 30 years.

GCMW: We came across that information however there is no evidence of any beliefs or public statements against the teaching of scripture on homosexuality, so therefore her friendship with Lily Tomlin is of little value in context to this post, in our view.

  10. Picking up stones and casting them seems to be a waste of energy. Homosexuality is not the greatest sin that we are facing. Militant atheism and New Age gurus are leading more people away from the church than those who are gay.
Perhaps it’s time to focus upon the real enemy, instead of the side issue that the Devil has distracted us with.

May God bless the desires of your heart and make your plans succeed.

  11. Homo behavior is indeed one of the great evils that we are facing…along with Abortion, Radical Secularism, Materialism and so on and so forth.

The founder of this website has correctly been called to combat the evils of the Gay movement in the Church!!

And yet again..I read about more ’saints’ that are going by the wayside….SHAME on Cynthia Clawson and all others that obviously DO not pick up their Bibles and learn what it teaches!!

    SCHOCKING is all of this…

What next??? George Beverly Shea singing in the next Gay Paride down San Fran way????

Its just the like the Bible warned…and we are living right smack dab in the middle of it….

  12. Since you have so many questions, let’s take time and answer them? There are a few for you at the end. Hopefully, you’ll be just as honest.
Do any of you have proof for what you are saying here? We go by what is said publicly.
Do you know for sure that Cynthia Clawson does not pick up her Bible? We never made that allegation.
You engage in speculation about the views of a deceased woman? No, we did not.
You decry another because she is friends with a known homosexual? No, we did not.
Even in this discussion, based on my one comment, I’ve been called a hypocrite and a phoney. Is this the way of love? Is this the way of Christ? Yes, Jesus called people hypocrites, devils, vipers, evil, wicked and much more. He called it as he perceived the intent of their hearts.
All of this reminds me of the Pharisees in Mark 2:14-16, who found it necessary to criticize Jesus because of the people he chose to hang out with. The Pharisees werent the only ones wrong in the Bible. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God Romans 3:23
My original comment that this is capitalization stands. This site is using a woman’s death to garner support for their anti-gay speech. There is no proof that Dottie Rambo supported God’s Gay and Lesbian children. There are hyperlinks on this page that obviously produce income for the site, so I’m guessing that there is some intention to raise money through this blog, if only to support the costs of running the site. Capitalization.
Youre entitled to your opinion. As you stated, without proof what does you claim mean except speculation?

    So which is it?
Does God love me or not? Yes.
    Do you love me? Yes.
Do the responses here demonstrate that love to me in a way that would cause me to turn from my (perceived) sin?
If you want eternal life, what is said here is irrelevant. Its telling that you inserted the word “perceived” in your statement. Is this an exemption from what the scriptures clearly state is sin?
If I were poor, would you feed me? Yes, if you asked.
If you found out that in addition to being poor, I am gay, would you turn away from me? No.
Would you visit me in jail? Yes, if you requested it
Or is your salvation merely about keeping score, tallying those who get into heaven and those you believe are going to hell? No.

It sounds like you’re trying to separate the sheep from the goats, but as I understand it, that’s not your job.

    Your questions:
Do you accept what the scripture says that homosexuality is a sin and if you are involved in it, you should repent and seek God’s forgiveness?
Would you accept the truth about your lifestyle, even if it came from someone you disagreed with?
Are you only concerned with love, but not truth and obedience to the will of God?

  13. I , too, was shocked by the passing of Dottie Rambo. But I was also rather disappointed that not only her daughter and son-in-law embrace the GLBT lifestyle; but even Miss Dottie also did, as well as the gospel of inclusion…I read this someplace and I would have to find it for you.

The Lord blessed her with an awesome gift of writing music that touched people. My favorite Dottie Rambo song is “When His Kingdom Comes”.

gmcwatch…as always, keep doing what you are doing to the glory of God…

  14. Take a look at the the comments made, most of my questions are in response to those, not necessarily restricted to the original blog entry.

since when did Jesus say that Christians only do good to those who “request” it?
GCMW: Please list all your spontaneous jail, hospital and feeding the homeless accomplishments within the last year.

No. I do not accept that the Bible says homosexuality is a sin. Common sense, academic research, sound theological studies show that in all 6 verses that are read as being anti-gay, this was not the meaning of the original texts.
GCMW: This is no surprise. And you wonder why youre being called a hypocrite.

I do not have a lifestyle, I have an orientation; doesn’t matter if you agree with it or not. It just is.

Faith, hope and love….the greatest of these is LOVE. If I love, then I am obedient to God, in Christ, who said Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and strength and your neighbor as yourself.

  15. i don’t do my good deeds for public praise, so I’ll not bother to list them. more importantly, you’ve managed to throw out a red herring and avoid the question. Did Jesus say that we do good to only those who request it?

You also didn’t respond to my questions about those who made comments that can not be supported by facts: Cynthia Clawson doesn’t pick up a bible? Speculation about the views of someone who can no longer make those views public? criticism of those who are friends with homosexuals?

If this is your version of love, your version of christianity, I’ll be happy to spend time in hell, at least you won’t be there.

  16. Keltic,

What academic research claims that your lifestyle is not sin? Do you honestly believe that gay male sex is physically compatible? You really think God would create your system to accept this lifestyle?

Look at your body which was brilliantly created by the creator. Look at the natural purpose of each system in perfect harmony. There is no way from physical evidence that you can say that homosexuality is correct. None! The male and female anatomy is perfectly fitting, with mutual pleasure, and purpose beyond mere pleasure.

Gay male sex introduces the body to disease and illness because the system which was designed for the removal of such is being damaged and results in fissures opening up the body to microbial.

As for your desires and same sex attraction I am sorry that is how sin manifested itself in your life. And guess what your not a victim because many people have suffered from SSA but that never gave them a license to engage in such. Rather, like ALL sin in our nature some went to the cross of Christ and laid everything down at the feet of the cross. Surrendering everything and repenting resulting in the healing process regardless of the manner by which sin manifested. What do I mean by this. Your SSA you felt at whatever age is no different than any other desire to sin. Sin is sin and without the cross you are dead in it. Why should you have the luxury of claiming yourself saved and gay while others had to repent of EVERYTHING? Do you understand what I’m saying? Why should the alcoholic, the murderer, the abortionist, the liar, the thief, the adulterer, the fornicator, the porn addict, the boaster, the arrogant, the idolater, the pagan, etc, etc have to repent but you do not? What is so special and holy about homosexuality verses some of the other sins mentioned? What is so sacred about homosexuality that you put it on an untouchable pedestal while Christ died for every other sin “except” homosexuality? You think WE are close minded. No my friend it is you who are close minded to the truth. Who are you to tell God that just because you “feel” a certain way that it is OK. I have a lot of “feelings” too but I am not about to engage in them. There is this girl at work in which I have certain “feelings” which come about but I wont engage in them. I have a lot of “feelings” my friend. My flesh is so corrupt and wicked that if I wasn’t saved and I didn’t have the Holy Ghost restrainer within me I would be quite a wicked individual. Thank God however I am saved. I look forward to the day when I am given a new body fashioned like the Lord and Savior and will never “feel” or desire any sin. What an awesome day that will be.

    Kyle

  17. keltic quite frankly your hypocritical nonsense is extremely boring having heard it more times than needed. Furthermore it serves no good purpose here. Find somewhere else to play hide and seek games.

Im sure you can ask and answer your own self involved question on your own turf.

  18. Keltic,

I noticed you didn’t answer my LONG questions. I have noticed that when one loses an argument they tend to either shout louder with no substance or in this case just shy away.

    Kyle

  19. no, Kyle,

yours deserves more time than I can give to it at the moment.

  20. To Kyle, GCMWatch, et al:

If homosexuality, in and of itself - were not a sin, what problem would you then have with it?

GCMW: Emproph, based on 1 Peter 1:25, Isaiah 40:8, and Hebrews 13:8, that’s a virtual impossibility. Thus, to answer your question would only lend itself to unproductive speculation. You assume that we have some sort of personal animus against homosexuals. Our objections and refutations are based solely on God’s written word and what is detailed as sinful, destructive and crippling to relationships both with man and God. That’s the level its on, so if you want to question that, feel free.

  21. Emproph,

Thats a great question. However, the problem is that if Homosexuality is not a Sin then God is a liar and the purpose for mankind is in vane. All sin including homosexuality was spelled out in the Bible. During old testament times the punishment was much more severe for MANY sins including Homosexuality. Thank God we live in the era of grace and that no matter how sinful you are the shed blood of Jesus can set you free. Once you have confessed your sins, accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and have been filled with the Hly Ghost you then become a child of God. Through prayer, reading of the word, and by the power of the Holy Ghost you begin your journey of change as you become more and more Christ like.

    Kyle

  22. Emproph: If homosexuality, in and of itself - were not a sin, what problem would you then have with it?

    gcmwatch: God’s written word…

Kyle: if Homosexuality is not a Sin then God is a liar

The Bible is inerrant. So be it. However, my essential question remains: If God’s written Word said that homosexuality was as constructive and life-affirming as heterosexuality (sans physical-procreation), what then would be your objection?

I ask that question in this vein:

Kyle says: “Why should the alcoholic, the murderer, the abortionist, the liar, the thief, the adulterer, the fornicator, the porn addict, the boaster, the arrogant, the idolater, the pagan [Emproph interject edit: pagan = sans golden rule morality], etc, etc have to repent but you do not?”

Those are all sins that cause harm to one’s self or are willful manifestations of the desire to harm others.

Am I truly to understand that you (and by “you” I mean generalizing…) believe that the human-desire for love, companionship, sex — for some — is “no different” than the desire to cause harm?

If so, so be it. But that then begs the question, would you then dutifully choose to become a lying thieving murderous adulterous fornicating porn-addict alcoholic abortionist who boasts arrogantly about their idolatrous paganism — if the Bible told you to do so?

    If not, why not?

  23. Keltic,

I noticed you didn’t answer my LONG questions. I have noticed that when one loses an argument they tend to either shout louder with no substance or in this case just shy away.

    Kyle

I’ve replied, but since it was so lengthy, I decided to make it an entry at my own blog. You just gotta click on my name.

  24. Pastor Foster,

Keltic put my post on his blog. I finally made it! LOL! Keltic I’ll check it out.

    Kyle

  25. The bible says that God destoyed for such acts. It speaks against this kind of act. And who said that gay and church goes together. It is as far apart as can be. It saddens me to know that Dottie was such an inspirational singer and inspired writer, to have a daughter and son-n-law to support such an unGodly movement. It is of Satan. If they do not get there heart right they will split hell wide open. Reba should know better for supporting such people.

    So Sad.

  26. Thanks for this blog. It’s so important that there are venues like this where people can freely and openly voice the truth in love and with compassion for those who are deceived and lost.

I love the scripture that tells us that in Christ we are new creatures and that old things pass away and all things are made new. The Holy Spirit began to convict me of my lifestyle immediately upon my acceptance of Christ and His saving grace. I hadn’t even learned my first Bible verse or heard my first Bible story, but God had the mercy to begin proving to me that He loved me by inspiring and empowering me to overcome drug addiction and an openly promiscuous and hedonistic lifesyle simply by the prompting of his Holy Spirit.

The same can happen in the lives of homosexuals and lesbians if the church will simply offer them the truth out of love for them. We need to let them know that their behavior is sin and it needs to change as they get to know Christ instead of watering down the gospel our of fear of being politically incorrect.

Our nation is in a sad and dangerous state as it accepts and accommodates these sinful lifestyles and viable alternatives and acceptable practices. From the government to the education community, accommodation and acceptance has chipped away at the foundational moral fiber that our nation was built on.

Jesus always made it clear when He met and saved people that they were to not only go and tell everyone, but to “Go and sin no more” as well. If you love Jesus, your life will show it through change and when change does not come, your love and commitment to him must be questioned.

Fruit is proof and a lack of it is equally potent as proof otherwise.

  27. Dottie Rambo didn’t always support the gay movement, but with her continued slide to a more secular and worldly lifestyle over the later years….probably due to some input and influence from her hyper liberal daughter and son in law, Dony and Reba McGuire.

With her open embracing of the gospel of inclusion came her open acceptance of the gay and lesbian lifestyles.

Saying “gay Christian” is like saying “prostitute Chrstian”, “heroin addict Christian or “adulterer Christian” and is so ridiculous that I’m amazed that so many people are so clueless to what the bible says about these lifestyles that they accept and accommodate them.

The reason we say we’re Christians and not have any prefixes to the term is that all else that we were becomes part of our past or part of our lives that we’re working on making our past.

  28. Thank you Pastor Gallagher for coming by and please continue to share you wisdom with our readers. Our world, our nation is in desparate of God’s liberating truth without compromise.

I did not know that Dottie herself had accepted the inclusionism doctrine. Its sad, it reminds me of King Solomon who let tolerance and diversity destroy his once great life and wisdom.

  29. Notice how Jesus Christ of Nazareth who walked this earth and shed his blood on the cross for the forgiveness of sins NEVER ONCE mentioned homosexuality in any of the GOSPELS. Please just notice that.

    –a Born-Again heterosexual woman

  30. you’re using faulty logic….Jesus also never mentioned a host of other issues such as zoophilia in the Gospels….but he had already covered that stuff in Leviticus….read John 1:1
