Is same sex "romantic love" a sin?

GCM Watch covered one aspect of this here.

But an advocate of so called romantic homosexual  love, sans sex has been re-raising the moot issue in emails to several opponents of sexual immorality.  His name is Brian and he claims to be a Christian from the UK. I received several of his emails claiming that there was no scripture condemning “same sex romantic love” therefore opponents of it are engaging in “homophobia”. My response to him that as a Christian, no thought, emotion or sentiment resulting from sinful behavior is acceptable to God. He told me he had seached the Bible intensely, over and over and could not find where it prohibited same sex romantic love.
I advised him to search more, without a presupposition.
I suspect he was framing his “search” in literalism (the exact phraseologyhe cited doesn’t exist in scripture).
Its a fairly disjointed accusation, but it looks like the brothers at Defending Contending have taken a little time to answer it.

Here’s a little of what they said:

The Lord also predicted that there would be people like you who deny the wickedness of homosexuality. In Romans 1 the Spirit through the Apostle Paul says to practicing homosexuals, “Though they know God’s decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” In other words _____, you appear to be reading the Bible with your culturally conditioned glasses, reading into it your views. Unless you stop allowing the culture to determine your reality rather than the Bible, you will die. This is no small matter … for your 5 minutes in your political empowerment and glory you are exchanging your soul. I will earnestly pray the Lord open your eyes to this. The homophobic arguments won’t work because they are at root, disingenuous and manipulative soundbites. You are aware of the plain teachings of Scripture on the matter. You claim to have read the entire Bible and not seen this teaching. But the Bible could not be more clear.”

By the way, take a good look at the banner picture and you’ll see the horror of what we face and must constantly fight against for the sake of the precious flock of God.

  1. Don’t give pearls to swine. They love their sin so. They have become reprobated in their minds, because they have convinced themselves that what they believe is true. God shows all of us sins of the flesh, but he has given us free will to choose good or evil Most people will choose evil. There is nothing to be done with people who have chosen evil, just as there was nothing to be done with the fallen angels. All we can do is tell them what God says and leave it at that.. Once we do that their blood is on their own hands when they reject the truth. They love to argue against the truth, God does not for He is truth and neither should we. They rejected Noah words and this world has not been judged since Noah. Satan has had a long time to play around and dupe people, and he has unfortunately for them

  2. Thanks for this website. I have struggled with same sex attraction at times. It is a bondage, an addiction, a “vain imagination”. This sin is just like any other sin. If you like thinking about it, instead of “whatsoever is right, whatsoever is pure, whatsoever is of good repute”, etc. it will invade your life. Eventually it will evolve into acting upon it, (I don’t really think that I need to go into detail here), and finally into justifying it as “normal” & “accepted” behavior.

God is light & in Him there is no darkness. We all have sinned & deserve eternal damnation. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who lived a sinless life, died on the cross to pay the penalty of our sin & to purchase a place in heaven for us. We have been bought with a price. As Christians, our lives our not our own. He rose again so that we could have eternal life. We no longer have the right to hang on to sin, including homosexuality, same sex attraction, romantic love w/o sex, etc. Jesus Christ is not only our Savior, but our Lord. We are deluding ourselves if we think that a Holy God is pleased with our fleshly thinking & sensual ways of living. Only Jesus Christ can set us free from the power of the sins of homosexuality, lust, fantasies, etc.

Please repent & believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  3. Lisa welcome and glad you stopped in.

I agree with you 100%. I dont speak theoretically but like you from past experience of struggling with ssa. We cannot elevate our feelings over the Word of God or else we establish our own righteousness.

You said it best:t here is no darkness in God and he wont accept any form of darkness in us. All of that is in scripture, but I guess if a person wont believe that then the scripture doesnt have any authority in their lives.

They might as well do whatever they want.
