BET 'Sunday Best' winner performs at gay church dedication

It probably goes without saying thousands of young impressionable gospel singers are “fans” of Crystal Aikin, the 2007 winner of BET’s “Sunday Best” gospel industry talent show.  But would it surprise you to know that Aikin, having not yet recorded an album, is already afraid of what homosexuals in the gospel music industry could do to her potential career?

Perhaps that is why Aikin agreed to perform at the opening building dedication of a local homosexual church. GCM Watch attemtped to contact the 32 year old Aikin for her explanation of why she performed in July 2007 at Vision Church, but it wasn’t until we posted a public appeal to her, that we received a call from her manager.  Whether she intended to or not, much was revealed about the state of the contemporary black gospel music industry.

Aikin’s manager, who did not want her name on the record,  offered several conflicting scenarios of why Aikin sang at the church.

Her initial reason was that Aikin was invited by a friend, but didn’t know the church was a gay church.  “If she found out, she couldnt just walk out on people”, she protested. According to self published church demographics, Vision church is comprised of 55% homosexual men, which would make it an unusual black church under any circumstances. That would be difficult aspect of the church to miss.

The unnamed manager said that gospel artists don’t like talking against homosexuality because “their words are taken out of context.” ”

“Everytime they say something, somebody takes it out of context and so they just dont want to address it,” she said. Do they do that on all issues, I asked or just homosexuality? Just homosexuality, she replied. Again its difficult to understand why a person (Aikin) is already afraid to simply say what the Bible says about homosexuality.  When asked if standing with God’s word was more important than a performer’s public image, the manager said she didn’t know.

Reading Crystal Aikin’s public comments about her talent, one gets the impression that she is a force to be reckoned with. “I don’t sing for myself at all. Before I get on stage, I pray. I believe there’s something on my voice that causes deliverance and healing”, she said in a BET interview.

The anonymous manager said that living on the West Coast, they (she and Aikin) didnt know anything about gay churches in Atlanta. That’s either a fairly naive statement or an outright lie. The west coast is dotted with homosexual churches.

She was asked if Ms Aikin believed that homosexuality was a sin and again she refused to respond until she “talked with Crystal”.

When asked if Ms Aikin would object to her picture being on the website of a gay church as a “guest psalmist” (see web shot; first picture is from Aikin’s myspace page), the managet reinterated that she did not know.

The lines drawn by scripture against ungodly fellowshipping with those who preach false doctrine and live unrepentant sexually immoral lifestyles continue to be erased by gospel industry singers who apparently who have a low view of scripture and an even lower christological view. Yet, the church continues buying music and celebrating people who hold a disdain for the very gospel they claim to be singing about. We ask again: Are there ANY GOSPEL MUSIC singers/writers/musicians left that hold God’s Word in proper esteem? Or have all forsaken truth in fear and for money?

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?”  (KJV)
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”  (NIV)
“Do not be teamed with those who do not love the Lord, for what do the people of God have in common with the people of sin? How can light live with darkness?” (LB)

  1. Praise the Lord Pastor Foster,
You know the old time saints keep telling me–“You have to pay the price!” Rev 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. These singers want the “Pay Day”, and they will do what “industry insiders” tell them to do to get appeal, fame, and fortune! Singers like Aiken, CeCe Winans and others are rejecting their conscience and the word when they accept “Filthy Lucre” from Evildoers from a FALSE Church!

The overwhelming majority of black gospel music is the heresy gospel of inclusion: we’ve got to cross-over, sound like the world with “Gospel” lyrics to reach the youth, to reach the broken hearted….How many pastors have stopped their youth choirs from singing R. Kelly’s anthems, “I think I can fly!”

I know first hand what it means NOT to COMPROMISE that which is right and true.
I have paid a dear price financially to take a stand against evil practices in my line of work 4 years ago.
I had executives tell me if I did not exceed goal by 100%, there was no career advancement for me. There were other managers that prostituted themselves to get the “numbers”. Well before I was shown the door, an audit was done on each branch manager’s numbers in this division. 32 out 33 offices had false numbers–from as little as 5 accounts to as much as 150 accounts! I was the only one whose numbers were TRUE! I wrote an email to the directors and the chief executive of the division pointing this out. Now, these other liars/cheaters were getting bonuses, promotions and I am getting threatened written warnings. Well of course, I was shown the door! But GOD has promised to restore me and that he will turn the tables in my life.

I had a vision last week–and it is prophetic in what the Spirit is saying to the True Church Body today.
I saw myself in a boardroom and sitting across the table in front of me was Master P(hip hop producer, rapper, multi-millionaire). Master P had in his hands a load of cash–$100 bills or as the hip crowd says, “Benjamins”. He had this mocking smile as he was looking at me! The vision shifts where I see myself as a dogcatcher catching different dogs and my hands were getting filthy from cleaning up dog poop.

Interpretation–Master P stands for those who will do anything to get ahead–He is a worst case scenario of selling out and losing your soul for earthly riches! The smile is Satan mocking my faith and stand for NO COMPROMISE. The work with dogs and cleaning up dog poop. A true stand for GOD will mean no earthly glory or pomp or fortune. Dogs represent lost, forsaken, cast down sinners and souls. This type of ministry will get my hands dirty but thank GOD for soap(the Holy Ghost) !

  2. What a sad case. Poor Crystal. She will find out that dancing to the music of homosexuals pulling the strings in the gospel music industry will pay evil dividends. Better to obey God, stand on his Word and not have a contract or album that to let those people shank you with their anti-God hatred.

Its sad because she didnt even put up a fight. They have her running scared before she even got off the BET show.

Sad, but a clear representation of what young people wanting to get into “gospel music” will have to do to get “their dreams”.

What does it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul? Is your soul worth selling out for cheap beats and useless lyrics?

  3. I’m saddened but i must say NOT suprised. The ‘equivocating’ from Crystal’s manager is typical of the gospel industry at large. Also, I must say—Ms. Aiken seems to display one of the common traits so prevalent in the gospel industry these days—-PRIDE. From the interview, “there’s just something ON MY VOICE that BRINGS DELIVERANCE AND HEALING”…..oh really???? Pardon me, but i thought it was the WORD OF GOD that brought about transformation. Not the vocal acrobatics and histrionics of a ‘so-so” gospel singer?
These ‘entertainers’ are amazing in their arrogance and pride. It’s all about THEIR voice, THEIR performance, THEIR “anointing”, THEIR “gift”, THEIR talents…. all the while using all the usual church cliches and lingo supposedly “just giving all the praise and honor to Jesus”. But when the rubber REALLY meets the road and it’s time to take a TRUE STAND for the cause of Christ where are they???
    Filthy lucre indeed!

  4. Oh yea, and as i mentioned PRIDE previously…I also meant to reference these “artists” and their FALSE HUMILITY.

  5. i posted this on another site:

Just got finished looking at the church website….found this lil tidbit on “Our Beliefs” page…

    Giving Back To God
We believe in the practice of tithing for the support of Christ’s body, the Church. We believe in the spiritual principles of sowing and reaping. We recognize that giving 10% of our income is the Biblical standard given to us. Leviticus 27:30

mighty funny that they would pull that from out of Leviticus all while ignoring the 18th chapter of Leviticus..

  6. She shouldnt have to perform at that church if she didnt want to. Gays dont run this country heterosxuals do! Obey GOD without any apologies. Afterall he is whom we should please not man.

  7. I think that when you are a true man or woman of Christ you NEED to minister where you are NEEDED. Jesus went o those who needed him. She needed to be there and to allow the anointing to flow in a place where it obviously is NOT. One problem with Christianity today is that we separate ourselves and stay inside the confines of the church and sing our holy songs and pray prayers for ourselves. If God used her to deliver just one person in that place, she did NOT go in vain.

  8. Great post May B. Knot. I echol that. I have a couple of friends including the pastor at Vision Church. We have to meet people where they are. Jesus didn’t condemn the person but the sin!

  9. Jesus didn’t condem the person not the sin. Hmmmmm ……lets see what the Bible has to say about that comment. 25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
    Matthew 23

26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

There is a differance between going in a place to minister and bring deliverance and going in a place where your presence will justify there sin. Even in Jesus mercy and compassion he never *winked* at sin.
    Let’s see
Woman at the well: Jesus said go and call your husband
Woman caught in adultry: Jesus last words to her go and sin no more

    John 5:14
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

Sin no more. The message of Chrsit is a message of turning from sin to Christ. Not living in sin and trying to justify it. Read Hebrews 10:26-31:

COME ON SAINT READ THE WORD…..GOD MAKES IT SO PLAIN…

  10. With all due respect, I will give the example of the drunk that in the bar. In order for him to receive the Word it may take a Christian going into the bar and ministering to that person. The devil wants us to stay away from places like this so people won’t receive deliverence. You’re not condoming their actions but providing a way out. There is a difference!

  11. Jysuper, a point well made but lost on this post.
Aiken did not go there to “minister” she went cause they paid her to come and sing at their anniversary.
That’s about it. This is no bar with drunks who dont know Jesus so thats not a fair or accurate comparison.

Dont spiritualize the situation when we know that has she held a view that homosexuality is sinful Aiken would have would have never been invited there.

If Aiken actually did otherwise, why did she refuse to even clarify why she was there? And why did her manager play VERY dumb about the whole situation? Does that sound like honest, upfront ministry or down low “ministry”?

  12. Good Point.

I don’t look at this as another “gay”church. I know a lot of people that go there and I would have been there not to celebrate sin but to be there for them. They have good people there and while I wouldn’t join them I would pray for them to be reconciled with God. Again, I have many friends there so this is real personal to me.

GCMW: Jysyuper, I think you made that point before. That you have friends there and its personal. Is that what Lot’s wife may have thought about her friends in Sodom? Is that what caused her to look back and thus share their fate? If God says come out and be separate, why keep the connection and call it ministry? I just dont understand why Christians would want to disobey God and the scriptures in order to “help” someone. Is it really worth it? It sounds as if you dont believe what God says is true and you dont think his way of handling disobedient people is sufficient.
Isnt obedience still better than sacrifice? This is precisely why God rejected Saul. Why risk rejection from God?? Please answer that because I just cant see how your reasoning is at all scriptural.

You say there are “good people” there. What is your standard of good? How can they be good when the Bible says even those who approve of homosexuality is worthy of death?

You say that its not just a gay church to you. Vision Church is teaching and living the same polluted doctrine other gay churches do. Just because they look good doing it, doesnt make them any better. A simple test would prove it. Just get one of your friends there to hook up a brief space for you on the program. Once up, simply inform them that homosexual conduct is against God will and those who refuse to repent will not inherit eternal life. IF they are different they will accept your words and repent, if they are not they will reject you and the word you speak. And I doubt you will ever be allowed to speak there again.

  13. When I say good I mean people who have been rejected by churches who supposedly love the sinner but hate the sin. I don’t approve of the sin. I see where you’re coming from. I’m not approving of homosexual sexual conduct but them as people who are worthy to be respected and loved as anyone else. The good people that I’m talking about (my friends) know that it’s wrong but because the churches they were apart of told them they were the worst sinners for having homosexual attraction, they joined there because they’re accepted. It’s now up to God and me to get them out. God delivered me from this life so I look at these people with compassion and know they didn’t choose their condition. Like Tye Tribett said in his Doctrine of feelings post, you’re going to feel the tempation, but don’t fulfull it. That’s the message that God will hopefully present through me to my friends.

  14. I’m curious to know…are heterosexual Christian gospel artists not allowed to minister to gay people through music? If not, what kind of music should gay people listen to?

What I got out of this post is that heterosexual Christian gospel artists that are living in truth and supporting the truth of God’s word should not be ministering the gospel through there singing. I guess that limits them to only ministering at heterosexual churches, huh?

I agree. Homosexuality is an abomination, but I didn’t know that it mean that gay people were prohibited from hearing the gospel through music of a heterosexual gospel artist.

you mentioned the scriputre about being not unequally yoked with unbelievers….

Does her singing at a church actually yoke her to that church?

and are all gay people (even if they’ve accepted Christ by faith through the grace of God) considered to be unbeleivers?

what about the percentage of the congregants who are not gay….are they unbeleivers too because they go there, or is she evenly yoked with the heterosexual half the church and the yoked unevely with the 55% that are confirmed as a gay men who attend the church?

    Thoughts?

  15. Behold, my thoughts (since I wrote the article) are the same. Perhaps you dont think I did a good enough job explaining why Crystal Aikin was dead wrong biblically for going to perform (you call it ministering) at a homosexual church

So, Im not sure what your point is.

  16. I asked you a number of questions about your ‘good enough’ explanation & you couldn’t answer any of them.

    My point exactly…

GCMW: No, you didnt have a point. That usually makes pointless questions impossible to answer.
