For the museum of church follies: Another golden calf for church pastors to worship.

  1. Went to the website, a man in the promo said something like this video will break chains and curese but you have to purchase it. Something foolish like that.

  2. People: Would someone please show me in the Word of God where God
is seeking out every pastor to be a “mega-pastor” or be associated with a “celebrity” star/guest?
There is no such thing as celebrity stars/guests in the Church of God.
None. You will never find anyone being exalted in the Word of God
as being a mega star or a mega pastor or to have the desire to be associated with what is known as a celebrity star/guest.
    That is of the world.
We will not even talk about such a conference being held in Las
Vegas as opposed to other less carnal locations. That location
speaks volumes as to the sponsors of this circus event.
Talk about straying, big time, from the simplicity and the humility of the Word of God.
Now, the church is being led to become big for the sake of big and to strive to become celebrities and yet Paul counted all wordly things as dung in comparison to knowing Jesus and Jesus alone.
If that is not our standard…what is?
The speakers at this event, in my opinion, are prostituting themselves if they know how this event is being billed but yet would still lend their names to this nonsense. It is
alarming to see people who supposedly have some discernment to be drawn into this circus/media event.
Why are we hyping such issues as mega churches and celebrities?
Because the church has grown luke warm in its mission of reconciliation and looks to gimmicks and quackery to try to bring
in people to fill the pews.
When you line up this hype with the word of God, you will see that
the saints of God are being merchandised and are being exploited with the lie that if you are not going “mega” maybe something is wrong with your ministry and anointing.
This is a travesty on the Word of God that these hucksters can
sell this gibberish and people of God…including pastors and
teachers, would partake of this nonsense.
The last time I read the Word of God….Jesus said He would build His Church…not Madison Ave and commercial retailers.
People…we have fallen off of the truck and are now under the
This is a sad commentary on the internal state of the church if
such a circus is not soundly rebuked and boycotted.
We might as well just put up large Neon signs outside of our churches and say: “Fill up a pew and get a free fill up at Bob’s Exxon gas station!”
That is how crass and commercial too many churches are going.
They have left the Bible standard of church growth and God’s idea of servanthood and have chosen the way of the world.
I am surprised that they are not offering free casino chips for the church that brings in the most members.

  3. “Something foolish like that”

lol, so very true. Im sure with all the corporate sponsorships, hollywood locale props and all-star celebrity guest lineup, the “anointing” will he high.

  4. The folks that attend this only have one thing in mind: to make for themselves “mega” bucks! Mo’ people, mo’ money!

  5. ha ha!

The early church broke bread from house to house and no everyone wants an arena! and many people in these churches still struggle finacially, something is wrong with that!

    “Romans 12:13
Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.”

Pastor, I was wondering if there is any type of survey of whether the people that go to Mega Churches were born again there or are from other churches?

  6. The poster screams out “false teachers!” All you need is a glance to know you need to run the other way. The early church would throw up if they saw something like that.

  7. The so called church has really gone to far.
If God does not grant these people with the Spirit of REPENTANCE, I feel so sorry for them. All this for Jesus to say on the Day of Judgment, “I NEVER NEW YOU, DEPART FROM ME YE THAT WORK INIQUITY”.

  8. What an slap in the face of true evangelism and just preaching Jesus Christ and Him crucified! I guess they have reworded the scripture to say If “DVD’s” be lifed up, they will draw men, instead of Jesus being lifted up and drawing men…

  9. tog, so you dont want to build a mega church? if you are not pastoring or going to one of those you are not happening!

I wish it was a joke!

  10. No thanks Paul N. I would prefer to be the “pastor” to my wife and 3 children. That’s more than enough for me at this point. But, once i get that special “Anointing” from Gawd, I will let you know and you can be my “kingdom partner”.

  11. Robert, you have women in the church with breasts and hindparts out, leading praise & worship. So, i think a brother with an earring would be a trivial matter (to them) at this point. However, i do agree with what you are saying.

  12. gcmwatch, I’m quite sure the BUFFOONERY will be high! The ad looks really cheesy and congested. Totally ridiculous. Continue in the work for God.

  13. Uh, the lady with the red scarf is the President and CEO of PepsiCo, Indra Nooyi. Somehow I doubt the leader of the 2nd largest snack food and beverage company in the world is going to support, let alone speak at, a conference for pastor’s.

While I did notice that the flyer does not say she will be there, I wonder why a “christian” group would purposely put someone on their flyer who will not be there knowing that it leads people to believe she will be there? Who are the other pictures on the flyer? They are certainly not pastor’s – c’mon, we know most of the “mega” pastors.

  14. I think Eli was a “Mega Pastor”! And his “mega” broke his neck! (1 Samuel 5:18) Mega Pastors are more concerned with their own glory/fat (Hebrew: “Chavode”) and in the end it will lead them to their destruction.

What Christ wants and the church needs are humble shepherds who are concerned for the wayward sheep and the souls of lost and broken people – NOT how big THEIR “ministry” is!

  15. Eld Carl, I thought those were stock photos. Thanks for identifying that woman. I will send an email and see if they can clear that up. False advertising?

  16. I hate the whole premise of this video that equates church growth to SIZE! Don’t they understand that it is God who decides the size of one’s church? I’m a member of a mega church and remember it when it was much smaller. I’m sure our pastor would love the days when he stood out front shaking folks hands, meeting them one on one when now he is ushered into and out of church by body guards (because of threats on his life).

Church growth should always be according to spirituality and not size. So for pastors to be coaxed into buying a video or attending a conference to increase their size, is only looking at MONEY and not God’s will for their church!

This comment here is in support of the mega churches whose growth is unavoidable due to people wanting to hear the messages and whatever reasons that draw them to those churches. The challenge for a pastor and his congregation should be such that NO pastor would even DESIRE to pastor a mega church!

But to whom much is given – much is expected!

  17. It is written “For men shall be LOVERS OF THEIR OWN SELVES,COVETOUS,BOASTERS,PROUD,BLASPHEMERS, disobedient to parents,UNTHANKFUL,UNHOLY”.[2 Tim.3.2] We are actually seeing the WORD OF GOD being fulfilled.

  18. Mega Churches cannot be healthy for the sheep, in these large churches people fall through the cracks with ease as there is usually no structure for the “one” sheep that strays.

If what Jethro told moses to do is not in place people WILL not get ministered to adequately

“Exodus 18:21 – Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:”

If something like this is not in place I believe the Church should split, its just not a really good Idea for the people to have absolutetly no relationship with the Pastor to me atleast.

Also when we talk about Church growth is it new converts or people moving to the large more affluent church? I am quite sure this is most of the growth in the Mega Churches as the people of god have grown to love big the big, glamorous things. This is really no growth at all then, is it?

There must be something behind breaking bread from house to house? To me you can influence your community for Christ this way and your fellowship is much more intimate.

I know of what I speak, I went to Lakewood and stopped when I realized their was no sufficient teaching taking place. Joined the Choir so I could be in a somewhat smaller group and to this day no one has called me. The “ONE” sheep is lost in the light of the work the church is seen to be doing on a grand scale. Is this Gods way?

    Have a blessed day all!

  19. I went to the site ( to check it out and noticed another link to a site called at the very bottom of the page.

I clicked on the link and went to the “doubleyourchurchattendance” web site. Here they offer a Church-Growth package (Regular Price $147, but of course it’s on sale for a bargain price of $37.00).

They also offer a free “Church Growth Tips” newsletter. Sooo… I decided to sign up for the newsletter. After signing up and verifying my email address, I received the following email:

  20. Painful, painful, just painful. Man’s desiring to exalt himself rather than exalt God. I recall this verse:

    Matthew 19:17
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

    Mark 10:18
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

    Luke 18:19
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

If Jesus Christ did not come to be served and to exalt Himself but rather to serve and to glorify the Father, how much less should we servants of Jesus Christ not seek to do the same?
