Jesus, the Days of Noah, and Same-Sex Marriage

by shofarsound
george-takei-weddingIn the twenty first century there has been a phenomenal increase of same-sex marriages.  It been legalized in Massachusetts, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and DC despite failed attempts to vote it down.  Same-Sex marriage has also been established in the Netherlands (2001), Belgium (2003), Spain (2005), Canada (2005), South Africa (2006), Norway (2009),  and Sweden (2009).  And the battle to legalize same-sex marriage rages on both in the United States and indeed worldwide.

Here are some other developments around the world:

● The judicial system in Nepal has mandated same-sex marriage.  Based on its court decision, the Nepal government will introduce the same-sex marriage bill this year.

● On January 8th of this year the Parliament of Portugal passed legislation to legalize same-sex marriage and the bill is expected to be ratified by Conservative President Anibal Cavaco.

●On December 29th, 2009 the Mayor of Mexico City, Marcelo Ebrand, signed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage in Mexico City.

●On December 28, 2009 the first same-sex marriage was performed in Latin America’s Argentina.

●And in February 2010, a same-sex marriage ceremony between two homosexual men in Kenya was interrupted by local Muslims and Christians who disapproved of homosexuality.  Had it taken place, it would have marked the first public same-sex marriage ceremony in East Africa. These two men knowing that homosexuality in general is prohibited in Kenya, had the boldness to defy the law, were set to get marry was straight rebellion to the laws of the Kenyan government, and the Word of God.

Ironically, Jesus said in Luke 17:26-30, “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when Son of man is revealed.”

Jesus being a first century Rabbi, like most Jewish teachers, coupled Sodom with the flood generation as a typical image of evil.  His intent was to inform his audience that at His second coming the conditions of the world would mirror Noah’s days and the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.

As in the Days of Noah

The Midrash Rabbah Genesis is a specific form of rabbinic literature of ancient Judaism commentaries of the Hebrew Scriptures.  It is based on the interpretation of the Torah (Old Testament). It speaks about the subject of same-sex marriage during the days of Noah.

The rabbis wrote in the Midrash Rabbah Genesis that the flood in Noah’s day was primarily triggered when males starting writing marriage deeds with other males, and between men and beasts (bestiality). Based on the account of Midrash Rabbah Genesis, same-sex marriages took place during the days of Noah.  There was nothing new under the sun and this is stated by Solomon in Ecclesiastes 1:9. Lot in Sodom and Gomorrah is synonymous with the destruction of the flood generation in Midrash Rabbah Genesis.  It states in the Midrash Rabbah Genesis that Lot pleaded all night for mercy for the Sodomites, and that the angels permitted him to plead for them. But once the people said, “… bring them out [the angels] so we may have sex with them,” mercy ran out.  The angels told Lot, “for now on you have no right to plead anymore.”  Judgment was sent upon Sodom.  Flood water was the judgment of God on the people in Noah’s day.  Fire and brimstone was the judgment against Sodom and Gomorrah.

The book of Enoch was written before the birth of Christ and although it is not an inspired book, it is a good resource.  Parts of it are quoted in Jude 14-15.  2nd Enoch 34-1, 3-4 states, “God convicts the persons who are idol worshipers and sodomite fornicators, and for this reason he brings down the flood upon them. And all the world will be reduced to confusion by iniquities, wickedness and abominable fornications. That is, friend with friend in anus, every other kind of wicked uncleanness which is almost too disgusting to report, and the worship of the evil one. And that is why I shall bring down the flood onto the earth, and shall destroy everything, and the earth itself will collapse in great darkness.”  Second Enoch states that perverse homosexual relationships were the main cause of the flood.  Both Midrash Rabbah Genesis and the second book of Enoch state that God frowns on homosexuality in cultic prostitution, and in so-called “loving consensual” homosexual relationships.  So don’t believe the liberal Christian theologians, gay-affirming churches and inclusionists.  Homosexuality and same-sex marriage are an abomination in God’s eyesight.

GCM Watch’s article on June 24, 2008, “Gay Marriage: the ‘days Noah’ return” examined the fact that same-sex marriage caused the flood in Noah’s day in the Babylonian Talmud.  The Talmud is the interpretation of the Hebrew scriptures 1000 years before Christ.

The True Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is the prophetic voice to this world.  Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!  We must be prepared to start looking up for our redemption draweth nigh. We must get the gospel message out and call sinners both in and out of the church to repentance. Acts 3:23 says, “And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which shall not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed among the people.” That Prophet is Jesus.

Jeremiah 6:10 says, “To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the Lord is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.” If you continue to believe that same-sex marriage is right, if you scoff at the Word of God, if you ridicule the true Bible-believing Christians as ignorant and small minded, let the Sword of the Spirit circumcise your spiritual ear to receive the truth…or believe a lie and be damned.

  1. Godlysoldier, this was the first post by Jerald Washington, our new writer. But amen he did an awesome job laying this out.

  2. Excellent post. I will have to do some more follow-up reading. I am so grateful to Jesus and His awesome work on Calvary that paid the price for my sin. And I’m grateful that I said “Yes” to Him while I had a chance!

  3. Oh I stand corrected! Great post Bro. Washington…like spirit with Pastor Foster indeed. Thanks for sharing Bro. Washington with your audience Pastor Foster!

  4. Very helpful to have that early historial insight via the Talmud
and the Midrash regarding this issue.
Thanks for the scholarship. If you have the specific references to the Midrash and the Talmud so that a person could locate the same references, please send them to me via my email address.
Just trying to be a good Berean so if I am challenged, I can
refer the challenger to those historical documents for their own

  5. Lafe,

    Thank you for your comments.

The answer to your question is as follows.

You can find the source for same-sex marriage in Midrash Rabbah Genesis from the following source:

Genesis Rabbah The Judaic Commentary To The Book of Genesis A New American Translation Volume 1 Genesis 1:1 to 8:14.

    by Neusner, Jacob

    P. 282

For same-sex male relationships and the flood 2 Enoch 34:1,3-4 the source is:

The Old Testament Pseudepigrapha: Apocalyptic Literature Testaments Volume 1

    by Charlesworth, James

Other Biblical passages that link the flood generation and Sodom and Gomorrha as epitomes of wickedness is found in 2 Peter 2:5-8, Jude 7-8.

Old Testament Pseudepigrapha writings of 3 Maccabees 2:5 reflects Sodom as sign of wickedness.

God bless you, and continue to study your Word

  6. A very appropriate article especially considering that now with the stroke of a pen, homosexual marriage has now been legalized in the nation’s capital. Another sign that an irreversable decay has set in.

Has the salt lost its savor?

  7. Great article. I look forward to more articles from you, Mr. Washington. There are many scientific data regarding the earth’s current weather pattern which backs up your article. Fears of Tsunami’s, rising oceanic levels, melting snowcaps, heavy flooding in areas (look at Europe yesterday).Truly the days of Noah. Same-sex marriage is presented as a civil rights issue, but it is as you point out in the verse from Enoch,it is a confusion birthed by iniquity.
Just a question not a criticism: is this the same Talmud that calls Mary and Jesus abominable names and declares all gentiles beasts?

  8. Ina,

Thanks for reading the article, and making valid points about the current weird weather patterns. I was just sharing that thought with someone on yesterday.

To answer your question. My main sources used for this article was the Midrash Rabbah Genesis, and 2 Enoch 34 in the Old Testament Pseudepigrapha Writings.

    Quote from the Babylonian Talmud
I took a quote from GCMW article from June 24, 2008 link source

and from the Jane Porter Faith2Action radio interview with first Jeffrey Satinover confirm that the Babylonian Talmud spoke about same-sex marriage in the days of Noah, it was confirm by Rabbi Aryeh Spero in another radio interview( at mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses shall matter be established Deuteronomy 19:15). link source

Yes I’m aware of the Talmud view of Jesus and His mother Mary are very negative. Jews that observe Judaism don’t believe Jesus is the Messiah. They have the “letter” and not the Spirit.

Judaism overall view of Gentiles was negative, Gentiles were looked at as dead corpses because they worshiped idol gods. Gentiles were only looked upon favorably once they accepted Judaism through circumcision for males, and proselyte baptism for Gentile males & Gentile females which marked them rising up from the waters of baptism as a new creation they were consider made alive in YHWH, and no longer dead.

  9. I have said it before but I must say it again….I simply cannot fathom the evil that is so around us….I tend to think that I am a person with some degree of discernment but never in a million years would I have thought that in America and my country of Canada would I see males marrying males and females marrying females….and with the approval of the masses to boot!!

Can you imagine this happening even 30 years ago or so….Never…

I can only agree that we are in the day’s of Noah…what is next I wonder???

  10. Well, you can add Washington, DC to that list of allowing same-sex marriages. As it was in the days of Noah, well it’s herrrrrrrrrrrre
