George Bloomer, JET, heaven and homosexuals

Via EX Times, we learn that Bishop George Bloomer aka “the general of warfare”  is the latest church leader to play footloose with the homosexual in heaven question. The North Carolina based Bloomer was interviewed in the May 3rd edition of JET Magazine and was asked if homosexuals were going to heaven.

MAY3JETIn this month’s issue of Jet features an article with Bishop George Bloomer who is the spiritual son of Eddie Long. The name of the article is entitled, “Will Gays go to Heaven?”

He did not give a clear cut answer instead he beat around the bush. Here are a few points of what Bishop George Bloomer had to say:

“I lost a brother to AIDS. I have family members in the gay lifestyle and it broke my heart when they left the church because they thought the church was too judgmental. I had been  judgmental too, preaching that gays would all burn in hell.”

If we believe anything about what the Good Book says about heaven, it’s a holy and happy place that NONE of us really deserves. No matter how you classify yourself, you had better depend on God’s mercy instead of your inherent goodness.”

At the end he says: “I’m not going to tell you gays will go to heaven-I’ll leave that assessment to you.

Bloomer also told JET that “sexual orientation” has nothing to do with missing heaven. Which I agree with.

“If we believe anything about what the good book says about heaven, it’s a happy place that NONE of us really deserves. No matter how you classify yourself, you had better depend on God’s mercy instead of your inherent goodness.” Is homosexuality an unforgivable sin? No. The only unforgivable transgression is to smugly refuse to bow down before your Creator. That arrogance certainly isn’t limited to any particular sexual orientation, nor to any particular kind of sin.”

If you remember, Bloomer was one of the featured preachers assembled by the Lexi show to refute Carlton Pearson’s inclusion heresy. But what’s really happening with these so-called leaders? Are they afraid of the gay churchers and supporters behind the scenes of these TV preachers?

Bloomer seems to indicate that since he was judgmental in saying that “all gays will burn in hell”, his solution is to be ambiguous about whether or not all gays will go to heaven. But instead, his theological pendulum has swung to the opposite end. Neither position represents the biblical stand.

If you remember, Bishop TD Jakes gave almost the exact same response four years ago in a NPR interview where he declined to say if homosexuals (the practicing, nonrepentant type) were going to heaven. In October 2007, Rev. Creflo Dollar,  another high profile mega preacher side stepped the issue when asked about it on Canadian television.

Is it really that hard of a question to accurately answer? If Bloomer and Jakes are so unsure, then are they really reading —or agreeing— with scripture which is sure?

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor 6:9-11 NIV

For a self proclaimed “general of warfare”,  Bishop Bloomer left the troops high and dry on this one.

  1. “The Book”…what’s up with that…he couldn’t say ” THE BIBLE.” That’s when you know most everything else he was going to say was going to be “watered down” jargon.

  2. I agree with you GodlySoldier. What is the “Good Book” Mr. Bloomer? The “Good Book” could be the Quran(sp) Please be more specific.

Could Mr. Bloomer be concerned about his status or money flow by sidestepping the question?

  3. I think that part of the problem with Bloomer is that he is a luke warm christian. He has been infected with the false notion of being non-judgemental. It is not polite in todays society for christians to be dogmatic and exclusive in our claims to truth. He displayed the same lack of understanding on the lexi show when he nor anyone else could articulate a clear response to the doctrine of demons that Pearson was spouting. Wishy-washy is the best way to describe it.
Also, he and others clearly don’t want to incur the wrath of the so called “Gay christian lobby” and deal with the criticism. If he begins to preach the truth of the Gospel about homosexuality, then half of the men in the choir may leave! (sort of kidding) and one third of the ministers on the rostrum may leave also! It is a total lack of conviction and desire to avoid controversy and not take a stand for christ that is the problem here. Not to mention a total lack of theological training. What earned degrees does he hold? Is he an elected Bishop or self appointed? In what organization? How does he have time to Bishop and pastor, write books and preach all over the country and still find time to study the word of god?

  4. Godlysoldier, I was thinking the exact same thing – the Good Book?
Don’t some people classify their Aristotle masterpiece as the Good Book? Or the work of Albert Einstein in one volume the Good Book?
Being vague offends no one and that, if you ask me, is exactly what he and others like him are trying to accomplish.

The Word of God is offensive to many. Accept that.

  5. Just makes me sad to read this. George Bloomer is actually one of the ones I’ve had respect for over the years, and so to see him waffling like this is so unfortunate. I’m just so tired of seeing these preachers give these mealy-mouthed answers when they’re interviewed by national media outlets. I’ve read so often of the hardcore Pentecostal preachers of the Azusa Street days, who would unflinchingly call sin sin, and warn of the fires of hell, without worrying about being politically correct. Such men and women of God seem to be a dying breed now.

If you’re a true preacher of the Word, then the fact is you’re going to offend some people when you speak the truth. That’s unavoidable. If you’re afraid to offend, you shouldn’t be a preacher in the first place. Perhaps some of these nationally known preachers/pastors need to be reminded of this.
The Old Testament prophets loved the truth and had a passion to speak it to the wayward people of Israel… but perhaps nowadays, it seems like when you have a mansion, a Rolls Royce in the driveway, and a multi-million dollar church empire that you’re presiding over, the temptation to “water it down a little” becomes too strong for some of these preachers to resist. Quite sad.

  6. blkrepublican, I dont think a degree is neither here not there with Bishop Bloomer. He simple doesnt stand on the truth, many with theological degrees dont eiter. I know that from reading the many articles on this blog.

This is just sad. Are we to not soeak truth because a family member has died of AIDS or they are currently in a gay lifestyle? Isnt it truth that God will use to deliver them? These guys should leave the pulpit alone.

I didnt know that about Mr. Dollar. What a way to sidestep the question about taking the bible literally. Funny, he has a real issue with people who dont tithe though.

  7. It’s all about PROSPERITY and in a tight economy, trying to buck the homosexuals with their high discretionary income is not the monetarily “prosperous” position.

Some of us already knew George Bloomer is as fake as Jakes, Long and the rest of the Prosperity band of so-called “Bishops”. Thank God through our Lord Jesus, that the fake has been further exposed! And if the Lord wills, perhaps one day he will repent.

  8. I think all of the above is true.

Homosexuality seems to be the great equalizer among compromising preachers these days. Homosexuals behind the scenes are either in bed with these folks literally or spiritually.

Observer, this is what its coming to. We are in the great falling away. I still dont get how they can preach hard and be all “anointed” and stuff in their churches but put them in secular media and immediately they act like pussy cats waiting for a saucer of milk.

  9. That is the most peculiar thing. I understand that not all signs and wonders are from God, but these so called “ministers”, “prophets” and “generals” operate in something. Signs (be it demonic) follow them. Is it Kundalini or is it the power of the name of Jesus? How can one operate in spiritual gifts (casting out demons)without allegiance to the Lord and his word? Can somebody please help me understand it? Was it demonic all along(Deut 13)? By the way, PLEASE don’t use the “gifts come without repentance” scripture. Thank you for the help saints!

  10. To: S.Wood: When Jesus rebuked the people who came to him who were expecting to enter into His heaven, Jesus told them: depart from me, I never knew you. Yet, they did signs and wonders and cast out demons in His name.
Two answers why this can occur: [1] God honored his word in spite of the handler of that Word because God is sovereign and he can do what He so pleases that accomplishes His will. His honoring of His Word does not automatically transfer to the user of His word, the righteousness of God via Jesus Christ. Example: Pharoah and he being used of God and by God but Pharoah was not of God.
In the natural, you can steal and use a credit card and get “goodies” off of it but it does not mean you are the rightful owner. You used the right standing of the real owner to obtain goods under false pretenses. You got the goods and if you get caught some may say, that they had permission of the real owner.
In the spiritual, false preachers and teachers and apostles and prophets can have a “field day” with God’s Word and get all kind of temporal benefits from it and even do “great deeds” with using God’s Word but when it comes time to give an account, God knows those who are his and he will deny honor and entry into his kingdom to the charlatans…in spite of the signs and wonders they did.
[2] Satan’s kingdom has power and authority with he being the prince of the power of the air. Limited authority (only being a
prince) and a limited time by which to besmirch the reputation of God. If Satan can have people follow his “angels” they will thus be caught following a different gospel and Satan wins his objective: to brings souls to Hell.
So, when you see power operating and you are unsure of its genesis, watch the fruit of the administrator of the power and examine their testimony and see if a sound Bible based gospel is
    being preached and taught.
We are not unawares of Satan’s devices. All who say…Lord..Lord”
are not members of His Body.
Signs and wonders do not confirm God’s kingdom and his righteousness. God needs nothing to confirm or affirm His kingdom.
God IS and that is apart from or dependent on any outside manifestations. If what you see or experience does not line up with the Word of God or the Spirit of God…question it and like a good Berean, run a “Word Check” on it.

  11. Excellent response, Lafe; cannot agree more. I have witnessed Bloomer personally on the few occasions where he made trips to PHL & Easton, PA nearly five years ago. While Bloomer could otherwise be looked as a great entertainer in the pulpit (an oversize court jester in an expensive suit), the continual talk of his wrestling with demonic forces gives me pause now. The last time I saw him, he spoke of having to fight some type of demonic force that supposedly has a demonic “stronghold” over the NE sector of the country. In doing this, he helped establish his faux credibility with such a thing, thus, the push for his materials at his gatherings. Apparently, everything is for sale with these clowns; even the very air you breathe can be peddled to the unsuspecting, if possible.

As someone pointed out, this is but a reaffirmation of the falling away that is taking place right now. Simply astounding.

  12. I once heard a TBN-type say the following about offending homosexuals, “Well, they come to church like the rest of us. Why should I call them out? They know what they do is wrong. I’m only reminded them that they AND THEIR GIFTS are not welcome in this church.”

At that point, I abruptly tasted throw up in my mouth.

    “Great equalizer,” Well said indeed.

  13. HisScrivener, yeah its that money thang. More and more of these TBN/WORD Network types are discovering that the gays are a reliable source of revenue….if you can just overlook one small problem.

  14. It’sad that most Christians don’t even know the process of Judgement for themselves let alone for others. Homosexuality is just one of the sins that will be burned out of the carnal mind, just as adultery, lying, murder,LUST,etc. The truth is that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. This includes homosexuals too. However, God’s judgement is coming upon them, but not just them only. For our God is a consuming fire.God’s spiritual fire will consume everything that is not like him and or of Him including homosexuality. Homoesexuals will come to learn and know the truth.so will non -believers. That is what judgement does, it sets everything wrong right. And God is perfect at doing that. Just as God is perfect at Saving ALL and bringing all into His family. Most christians won’t dare believe this because then they won’t feel so special anymore.

  15. When ya get gov ment money theres a certain thangs that cha cant sey. Soooooooo Bloomer gots the money so he’s gots ta shut up and stick to the script. Money talks and righteousness walks. The saints shall judge the world. Now, or we saints or not…..? The Great Falling Away Today author Milton Green. Find it, and read it…………….

  16. @maureen

Where and how in the world did you come to such false conclusions?

Most christians won’t dare believe this because then they won’t feel so special anymore.

No – actually Christians don’t belive this because the Word of God says the exact opposite over and over and over…

  17. Maureen, Maureen Where did you get that from. Everyone is not going to be saved and you sound to spiritual by saying we won’t feel special anymore if all are saved. Yes God is perfect and can do whatever her wants, but there are no scriptures that says all will be saved.

  18. As a Presiding Bishop, I pray I never lose sight of the factual truth of God’s word! Leaders at this level should never waiver on such an easy, “open book” test question as this. You cause others under your influence to waiver and WONDER? The issue is the practicing, non-repentant homosexual. The practiced and non-repentant act of sin is what separates us all for the presence and promises of God. What makes you a homosexual, the act? What makes you an adulterer, the act? What makes you a drunkard, the act! What makes you a sinner, the act! Lastly, what makes you a Christian, the act of confession, true repentance, and turning from sin? Heaven is the home for Christians!

  19. To Nan:

Ponder on these scriptures…there is case to be made..that all will be saved…these scriptures definitely touch on that subject..pretty powerful scriptures….

    Romans 11:25-27
    Hebrews 8:10-12

And if there is any questions about our relationship to or with Israel; these scriptures speaks clearly to that:

    Gal. 3:8
    Gal. 3:14
    Gal. 3:26, 27, 28

And I love this scripture..it has so much meaning..especially when you realized how blessed Abraham was..when you realize the promise that was made to Abraham…and that we are heirs of that promise…(Hebrews 7 & 8 also speaks to this)….all of this thru Jesus Christ…which to me is the key…as long as one believe’s in Jesus Christ…I can’t see how they not end up spending eternity with them…now the question becomes…when does one have to believe..during judgement..before judgement…..that’s a different story…some may find Christ on their death bed…(ex..the man on the cross next to Jesus)…other’s perhaps the moment before they die…or others on the day of judgement…for it is clear..every knee shall bow..and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord…I believe HEAVEN is for everyone…and HELL is for a select group..at the end of the day..God will be the final judge..

  20. Romans 9 clears up the Israel as far as those who will go to heaven.

    verse 6But it is not as though the word of God has failed For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;

    Romans 2
28For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh.
29But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.

There is no where in scripture that says all will be saved. That heresy makes the gospel of no effect. Trying to be good we blur the picture for sinners who need to repent and out their faith in Christ.

  21. Amen Paul.
The “gospel” of inclusion is a destructive heresy. It doesn’t hold up when you take into account the entire Word of God.
It’s a man-appeasing belief which is accepted by people who won’t accept the perfect character of God. Period. I stand on this because whenever I hear people uphold this doctrine, what usually follows is an incredulity about the nature of God’s justice, followed by a denial of the method in which it’s carried out.

  22. Totally agree Angela.

I remember seeing a little girl who didnt understand how to play hide and seek. She would cover her own eyes and think that you could not see her. This is what people who believe such trash do with God, they purposely blind themselves to the truth and act as if God is not seeing and doesnt know the truth.

Come on, John 3:16 is as plain as day, you need not look any further.

  23. I believe that there is so much truth on this blog….however i also believe that it is easy to become self righteous….The most profound rebuttle that I’ve enjoyed thus far has been that of Kevin….He distinctively talked about the ACT-vs-PRACTICING…I strongly believe that the Bible…not the good book….is totally clear about Homosexuality…..and its on the list for those who will not inherit the Kingdom Of God…Pray for Our Leaders On the Front Line….And Not About Them….AMEN!!!

  24. Even the belief of Eternal Security is a lie, just in case anyone was pondering “Once saved always saved”. You can loose your salvation.

1THEREFORE LET us go on and get past the elementary stage in the teachings and doctrine of Christ (the Messiah), advancing steadily toward the completeness and perfection that belong to spiritual maturity. Let us not again be laying the foundation of repentance and abandonment of dead works (dead formalism) and of the faith [by which you turned] to God,

2With teachings about purifying, the laying on of hands, the resurrection from the dead, and eternal judgment and punishment. [These are all matters of which you should have been fully aware long, long ago.]

3If indeed God permits, we will [now] proceed [to advanced teaching].

4For it is impossible [to restore and bring again to repentance] those who have been once for all enlightened, who have consciously tasted the heavenly gift and have become sharers of the Holy Spirit,

5And have felt how good the Word of God is and the mighty powers of the age and world to come,

6If they then deviate from the faith and turn away from their allegiance–[it is impossible] to bring them back to repentance, for (because, while, as long as) they nail upon the cross the Son of God afresh [as far as they are concerned] and are holding [Him] up to contempt and shame and public disgrace.

Basically take the opposite of what MAW said and that is the truth, because he doesn’t know any better talking out of his own nature.

    Christ’s words:

Matthew 7:13 Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.

    MAW’s words:

I believe HEAVEN is for everyone…and HELL is for a select group..at the end of the day..God will be the final judge..

  25. With all due respect, your website is an example of the one-dimensional thought processes that are so prevalent in modern-day fundamentalism. If we’re not careful, we risk viewing certain tenets of our faith through the myopic lens of a contemporary and scripturally unsound frame of reference.

The Church, although well-intentioned, has through the centuries justified and/or defended everything from slavery to polygamy, from violence to vengeance; sexism, racism, oppression, bigotry, national imperialism, and other acts and attitudes which were once thought to be condoned by Scripture but, through the education of the Church and the leading of the Holy Spirit, were one by one abandoned in light of new interpretation, sensibility and scholarship.

Likewise, we must remain open to fuller and deeper illumination of Scriptural truths as we continue our faith journey, or history will someday relegate us to the same category as those devout and faithful Christians who steadfastly held their view that the world was flat.

Not expecting you to post this, as all your posts are in agreement with what this website promotes (a fact which, in itself, is unfortunate and, frankly, cowardly) but I did want to stand up for beliefs I as a lifelong Christian firmly hold.

    Thank you,
    Kaye Sloan
    kascarolina@gmail.com

  26. Hey Robert.
I disagree; I absolutley disagree with the statement that a truly regenerated person can lose their salvation. Scripture debunks that claim. Besides that, I think it insults the saving work of Christ.

But this article isn’t about whether eternal security is biblical or not; so I won’t get into it here, not on this thread.
But I just wanted to respond to that statement you made because I believe it can confuse those who are new in the faith.

Maybe we can discuss it via e-mail.

  27. Kaye Sloan, youre entitled to your opinion, but your comment contains a factual error that should be corrected.

There are well over 11,000 comments on this blog. While I do not have the exact amount of those who disagree with this website’s mission, the record proves that they are a significant representation. Thus your statement that “all posts are in agreement” is false and frankly lazy on your part to make. Even if there were none before, the inclusion of yours would make it an uninformed statement.

That being said, I couldnt help but notice quite a bit of hypocrisy and contradiction in your comment, but since its just an opinion, I guess youre entitled to that too.

And are you in agreement with George Bloomer, is that why you posted?

  28. No Hebrews 6 is very clear. The author is referencing to a born again Christian who chooses to fall away. We must rightly divide the Word of God.
God and His Word cannot contradict itself, so we have a problem here.

Pagans and atheists cannot cast out demons and perform signs wonders and miracles. That is a Power and Authority only given to Christians, so…….

    Matthew 7:21-23
21″Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

22″Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’

23″And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

If you would like to discuss this via email let me know I am definitely up for it.

GCMW: To Robert and Angela, feel free to continue under the “Open Forum” post if you like.

  29. Bloomer said:““I’m not going to tell you gays will go to heaven-I’ll leave that assessment to you.”

That’s a “punked-out” answer. As tough as he appears to be what’s the problem with preaching the bible???

So far as salvation, point to me any time that a person’s free will is ever stripped from them and I’ll agree that a person can’t turn on God once they’ve known him. When you do that though you have a greater problem and that’s called the problem of evil. Evil exists because of exercise of freewill. If that is the case and God wanted freewill beings to serve him, then you paint an unbelievable and unacceptable picture of God’s love and actions toward humanity. (eg: freewill could have been arrested before evil entered)

There is a much deeper problem that exists if freewill is ever stripped from a person. That very act is evil itself. Further, to say that in Christ, Christian freewill is only exercised to serve GOd is denial of the obvious facts that exist all around us. Christians obviously exercise their freewill to do evil on occasion. So this is a conundrum for the “Once saved Always” saved folk, and I’ve just scrapped the surface.

Thanks Elder for continuing to let us know about these charlatans.

  30. I guess I feel pretty close to this topic, as I have lost a son to the homosexual lifestyle. Russell was a born again Christian, but fell into believing what the world had to offer.
God is a loving God, and I know he did not stop loving Russell because of the sin he entered into. If this being the case, he would stop loving us all.
I know my son is in heaven, because I know God is a loving God who forgives.
Russell was a naive kind young man who, (as my pastor told me) would not have the rewards in heaven as others would. I don’t understand all of this, but I know Russell laid in his bed with a lot of pain and remorse before he died.
If I could only say that I have not failed God and was a perfect person, then I could judge others. I know what I felt when Russell was in the lifestyle, and always told him things I really did not understand. I was so judgemental!I knew God did not want this for him. It was love for my son that I felt he was doing wrong, and I did not know how to do anything but pray for him to leave the lifestyle. Maybe God answered my prayers, but not the way I wanted. Let us all be kind and pray for every homosexual.

  31. Carolyn the issue isn’t praying for homosexuals. Heck, I’m sure we have all prayed for a person trapped in sin one time or another. Having been compelled by the love of Christ for God to release deliverance from that form of sexual immorality.

Sin is destructive, that’s Biblical Truth, in my opinion sexual misbehavior like homosexuality gives us a VERY clear view on why God warms us against sin. (STDs and AIDS anyone?)

The Bible is very clear on who will inherit the Kingdom of God and who won’t. Homosexuals will not, unless they repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ.

  32. I dont see how a person could NOT pray for homosexuals knowing full well that as is they will not inherit the kingdom of God. I will say that if you cant talk to them and share God’s truth with them, praying for them is exactly what you should do. However, in the end its their own choice to choose the path of repentance God has designated for salvation.

  33. Min. A. Williams I think you’d better go read again because you have clearly missed something major in scripture. If you think hell is for a select group, then who may I ask is that select group? Wouldn’t that mean people. Just because one believes in Jesus does not mean that they follow him and you as a Minister you should know that. Yes every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, but that doesn’t mean they all belong to God you should know that too. You’re being contradictory in your statement. If you believe all are going to heaven then why even say hell is for a select group, by saying that you’re saying that all are not going to heaven. Jesus himslef said unless you have been baptized with and filled with the holy spirit you won’t enter into heaven. So you can believe in Jesus and not get to heaven.
