Repent, for the judgment of God is at hand!

There is a level of evil that is building and sweeping across this nation as well as most of the world like never before. In my years as a student of history and world events, I’ve never seen the level of wickedness and perversion as I see taking place currently in our world today. It’s almost as if someone has flipped off the morality switch and all hell has broken loose.

Here are some points to consider:

California is set to become the first State in the union that will require (mandate) every child in the State public school sector to know and learn about same sex relationships, homosexual lifestyles, tolerance/diversity training and, to top it all off, they (students) will be required to learn about homosexual “civil rights” leaders such as Harvey Milk.

Not only has California fought long and hard to make this a political issue, even the Obama Administration is watching this closely, as they to, are designing a program which will bring homosexual diversity training into the classroom to children as young as 5 years of age.

Then, with the recent passage and signing into law of New York becoming the 6th State in the union to adopt gay marriage, the recent lifting of the ban on homosexuals in the military and President Obama himself stating his views of gay marriage is “evolving”, the nation is spinning out of control and perversion is becoming another form of normalcy in the land.

Senators and Congressmen caught in the act of immorality, television preachers caught in love triangles while continuing to make millions off of un-discerning supporters. There is a foul spirit in the air and it’s growing.

Recently, statements by Washington officials and political insiders that suggest the real possibility of civil unrest in this nation is prompting many officials to consider enforcing martial law if things come to a head. It seems our nation is heading toward a point of no return.

From catastrophic weather events where floods, tornados and the past harsh winter where national records for snow and cold temperatures were broken, homes destroyed, lives taken and virtual communities lost forever, all suggest something is happening in our land.

Immorality seems to now be the rule of the day, where open nudity can be seen almost everywhere, where even the push for the sexualization of children seems to be epidemic and the idea of traditional morality is seen as repressive and out of date, we are sacrificing whatever morality we have left on the altar of idolatry.

The world is being shaken. From the economic turmoils that control the economic destiny of people everywhere, to the regulation of restrictions against Christians in democratic nations such as Canada and the UK, where it is now illegal for a preacher to declare the word of God against sin, especially when it comes to homosexuality. Preachers as well as Pastors are being jailed for doing nothing more than proclaiming the truth.

Even in the church today, immorality, false teachings and idol worship is gaining a foothold in many pulpits across America. What was once preached against has now become accepted, and what is now accepted is being preached to those who have ears to listen and hearts to believe. A form of Godliness is all too common today and yet, most believe they are experiencing a revival, yet there is no true power behind it.

It seems as though someone has taken all of the worse case scenarios one could dream up and found a way to make it reality. Even in our civil laws, where justice is promised to the weak and the abused, justice is but an illusion to the highest bidder or the best looking. When a mother, accused of murdering her child can be acquitted by a jury for murdering her own child; who sought the life of night clubs, who waited almost one month before reporting her child missing, as in the case of Casey Anthony, there is a problem with our culture. The Justice system itself has become just that,  just-a-system.

But these events, these occurrences are indicators that our world is on a collision course with judgment. With each new day that brings another amazing revelation or discovery, or catastrophe, it only proves one thing, that our world is coming to a significant point in time where Christ has all but told us would come in due season. Today’s headlines are reading like the very pages of Revelation and as such, our only thought should be as believers is, are we doing all we can to preach the gospel before the end of our age nears?

So what is happening? What is going on in our world? Obviously the world is not getting better, it’s becoming worse and with every passing moment of time. What is the answer? The answer lies in the words of Jesus himself in Matthew 24, where he spoke about signs in the heavens as well as in the earth. Jesus gave us a warning of what was to come, and by the looks of it, his words of warning are echoing true.

We as Christians need to take an account where we are at in our own lives, for the time is coming when those around us will not endure sound doctrine, but instead, seeking soothing words, will seek false words and a false hope. But we move forward, preaching to all those who will hear, that judgment is coming.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 “But know this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”

Repent, for the judgment of God is at hand.

Resistance is futile

There’s a popular line in the Sci-Fi television series, “Star Trek: TNG” in which an invading species known as “The Borg” declares their intention to all those societies who cross their path, “You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.” And in one moment, entire civilizations are then assimilated into one, single collective with no individual thought, no personal identities, just one unified body of neutrality.

But that’s science fiction.

In reality however it’s not science fiction, it’s real and it’s happening all around us. Currently, our nation, our society and many Christian leaders, are being assimilated right before our very eyes. Family members, public leaders and even children, are all falling under this assimilation and it’s being done under the guise of tolerance and acceptance. This assimilation has a name, and it’s name is called homosexuality.

If we do not act now and take the fight back to the enemy, our time for openly dealing with this issue will change the way we as Christians preach the gospel in a free and open society. Truly, we are facing one of the most challenging times the church of Christ has ever faced, excluding the coming Great tribulation, homosexuality is now the common denominator in which the church will find itself at odds with this new and changing society. More importantly, it (the church) will find themselves at odds with those who also call themselves Christians.

On June 24th, 2011, just before midnight, a declaration of war was announced, not by a foreign nation, not by militant Muslim terrorists, but by a presiding group of democratic legislatures in New York, who, driven by hatred for the gospel, passed a law recognizing the legal status of gay people and their “right” to marry, with only minutes to spare, which was readily signed into law by Governor Cuomo. The State of New York thus became the 6th State in the union to recognize same sex marriage and equal rights for homosexuals.

Make no mistake, this was a statement against God and his holy word. The assimilation of a people into accepting this lifestyle is nothing short of a people who have become immune to God’s warning of impending judgment. And because the people have unified themselves to become one people, pledging to violate the very fabric of God’s prescribed order of living, we have set a course in which the only true answer God can give is his personal judgment.

As I write this article for publishing, I am reminded of the continuing tragedies which seem to be mounting almost daily now all across this nation. From devastating tornados, floods and wild fires, this nation seems to be unyielding to a point of no return. Our economy is on the verge of literal bankruptcy, even after a momentary up swing in the U.S. dollar and stock market rise in Dow points, it seems we’ve taken another major blow to our nation and I believe it can all be pointed to where we are at when it comes to our spiritual condition as a nation. We are on the verge of ruin.

All around us people are being assimilated. Accepting ideas, false theologies and “morals” which are foreign to the true gospel, and still, with homosexuals marching in the streets of New York, celebrating the overcoming of great odds, the church has been stuck in mediocracy.

The word says in James 4:17, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” There can be no more excuse for the believer. The line has been drawn, the die has been cast, a choice must be made. For God is calling out a remnant of believers who will not back down when it comes to immorality, sin, wickedness and perversion. He is calling men and women who will stand up to the face of evil and call all men to repentance. For as sure as God removed the nation of Sodom from off the face of the earth, God is warning us that we are reaching a point of no return. This nation is at a tipping point and time is a luxury we no longer have.

The assimilation of our society has begun, war has been declared and Matthew 24 is steadily being fulfilled. Remember the warning found in 2 Timothy 4:3-4, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. And they shall turn their ears from the truth and shall be turned unto fables.”

On June 24th, 2011, truth was forsaken, now judgment is coming.

Is TBN silencing God's prophets?

If you would have told me 30 years ago that a Christian network in the future would play a part in the silencing of Godly men and women who were preaching the truth, denouncing corruption in the church and exposing liberalism and the teachers who promoted such views, I would have told you that maybe you should take a break from science fiction. But interestingly enough, that’s exactly what seems to be going on within the nation’s largest and most prominent Christian television network – the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Sometime during the week of June 11th, long time preacher Jack Van Impe became the second casualty in recent years when he was ultimately silenced by officials at TBN for comments and opinions expressed in a taped program set to air on their network, but after viewing, was considered a violation of their network policies of offending other ministers, even though this same offending program was aired the previous Monday.

So why did TBN become unhinged about Jack’s comments in his program enough to not only reject him by not airing his program, but forbade any future programs which contained his DVD full length program, “Reclaiming and Restoring Biblical Christianity” as well as moving him to another night where the audience viewership was 25% less than his current time slot, which would ultimately give him a much lower viewing audience which ultimately means less exposure. So what could Jack Van Impe have said, or was going to say that brought down the wrath of the Crouches and ultimately silenced a significant preacher of the gospel?

The answer, it seems, was Rick Warren and Islam.

It’s no secret to many who believe in traditional conservative Biblical views that Rick Warren has ultimately forsaken the gospel for a social gospel, which is no gospel at all, but a gospel of popular ideas not founded on the word. Warren’s belief’s of the removal of the cross in most churches, his pro-Islamic stance and his purpose driven theology, all point to a complete rejection of foundational Biblical truth.

What Jack apparently did, was discuss the major points of four (4) leading emergent evangelical leaders and how they were combining their doctrines to include Islam, something that our Lord has strictly forbidden (Ephesians. 5:11) as well as expose the many false teachings that are literally running rampant within the modern church and the people who are behind these teachings. Two prominent leaders, Rick Warren and Robert Schuller, were singled out concerning their liberal teaching and why merging Christianity and Islamic teachings is not only wrong, but damaging to the body of Christ. Schuller’s pro-gay stance has increasingly become all too well known here and here.

Once Impe began to reveal exactly what was being taught by these men and why their popular and accepted views are being held by many ecumenical leaders today, and why these same views would seriously hinder the gospel, not to mention it’s devastating affects on evangelism, folks over at Trinity began to get nervous, possibly outright upset that someone like Warren, who to many within the TBN camp is idolized, would start getting their feathers ruffled at the mere notion that one of their favorite Pastors was being labeled a false teacher.

It didn’t take long before the consequences of touching TBN’s favorite Pastors would be revealed, as the official statement by Impe’s own website clearly states, “On Wednesday afternoon we received a call from Matt Crouch of TBN informing us that they would not run that program, despite having aired it Monday evening. The reason he gave was that we specifically mentioned Rick Warren and Robert Schuller and that it is TBN’s policy that broadcasters are not allowed to rebuke other ministries. This is a rather hypocritical statement in light of the fact that they have never said anything in the past when we have rebuked others such as Bishop Spong, Bishop Pike, and in the past few months Harold Camping and Rob Bell. They also stated that they would not run any future program where we offered our DVD Reclaiming & Restoring Biblical Christianity as a premium for a donation to our ministry. A DVD that exposes false teachers and the heresies that they proclaim.”

So it seems that not only is it forbidden to examine the teachings of others, it’s also forbidden to challenge any viewpoint that is currently popular and accepted by the status quo. That’s where the censoring begins.

There was another man, a prophet of God by the name of Jeremiah, who went before the people of Israel and preached righteousness, exposing the false ideas accepted by many of his day and when they heard what this prophet declared as “thus sayeth the Lord” the people reacted angrily to the point where Jeremiah was thrown into prison at times, yet his declaration remained true.

But this is not TBN’s first rodeo when it comes to applying pressure to someone who is openly critical of another faith, one has to simply look to Hal Lindsey and see the affects of tolerance pressure when it is applied. Lindsey himself got into much hot water for questioning Islam and why the Islamic religion is dangerous not only to our nation, much less the world, but to the body of Christ. And yet, when Lindsey began to speak openly on his program, it didn’t take long for the Crouches to put a stop to his rhetoric and soon, Hal Lindsey was removed completely from the network and long time friends (Lindsey and Crouch) became divided. Lindsey was eventually brought back to TBN after much public swaying, but obviously the damage was already done.

The idea that a Christian network, ANY Christian network, would pressure a minister of the gospel in what they can or cannot say, should concern all of us who value God’s word. A true preacher of the word cannot be regulated, nor is he subject to sermon approval, the reason is simple, the gospel must be preached regardless of who it offends. Once we start silencing the gospel under the guides of tolerance and political correctness, we lose and not only us, souls lose as well.

At a time when Christians are accepting homosexuality within its walls, accepting worldliness, secularism and humanism, when Pastors can write books stating there is no Hell and that the atonement for man’s sin is not in the cross but through psychology and a purpose driven ideology, God will raise up a watchman or a Prophet that will declare what God has to say and no other. When a Pastor cannot state for certainty how a homosexual can be saved and delivered, when another wants the church to subscribe to ecumenicalism by joining up with Muslims, while another Pastor produces a popular movie which depicts a nearly half naked woman sitting on the couch undoing her bra, something is sadly wrong within the body of Christ and it takes someone with grit to expose and deal with this problem we are now facing.

Trinity Broadcasting is in error, and their new direction is clearly a sign of the times we are living in, when men would rather seek the praises of men rather than to promote Godliness and righteousness. When a Christian network begins to silence preachers and prophets of the gospel who are doing nothing more than warning the body of Christ what is happening in the church, it fulfills the warning of the apostle Paul, who saw this great falling away in our future, “For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.” 2 Timothy 4:3

I contacted Paul Crouch Jr. seeking a comment for this article and was given this reply, “We choose to lift up the Lord, not chastise others. That’s not our calling. If he (jack van impe) needs to do that, he can buy time on secular TV outlets. Remember, we would not allow anyone to criticize Jack Van Impe either, even though many would love to! (The sword cuts both ways.) Again, it’s not our mission. “And I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men…” end quote.

Again, it bears repeating, part of the gospel is weeding out the false and exposing those teachings which bring harm to the body of Christ, if we ignore those who are called of God to warn us of the poison many are bringing in, is that not lifting up the Lord by protecting his sheep he has entrusted us with?

All I can say is, judgment day is going to be a time of joy for many and a heartbreak for others.

The First Church of God on Sodom Street Pt 2

In part one of this article, I talked about how far too many Christians have shifted their positions on morality and perhaps have moved it to the bottom of their contemporary concerns. But what could have contributed to that?

Recently, I heard a pastor state that it was his intention to be “culturally relevant” in these last days so that the church can become the center for evangelism, community driven and to be intriguing for sinners to come to church and get saved. Sounds good, but it’s wrong.

Since the past few years I’ve heard many Pastors, youth leaders, Christian entertainers and Christian laypeople state this same rhetoric, that in order to win the world, we must become relevant enough to get their attention so that we can give them Jesus. But are we?

I do not doubt for one moment the sincerity of these people, I honestly believe that they believe they are doing what they think is best to win the lost, to garner more attendance, to satisfy the great commission for their cause. But the problem persists that as more and more churches declare this agenda, they are merging on the edge of losing their identity simply to appease the world.

Because of this style of evangelism which is found in many churches, it’s leading many into an open area of compromise and sin. This is why the number of fallen Pastors has risen sharply in the last few years. Because of this new concept to become current with the world, we have allowed the world’s ideas and beliefs within the church itself. Hence, why so many believers are now struggling with sexual sin and immorality like never before. We are getting sick from the disease we once had an immunity to.

The argument for this philosophical nugget is that if we can become more appealing to those in the world who are already engaging in behavior that is both sinful and ultimately harmful, then we can draw them away from that style of entertainment or lifestyle with something identical yet spiritually enriching. I call it the “New Coke” syndrome.

Back in the early 90’s Coca-Cola decided to create a new Coke, something better, something people would want that would replace the old Coke. What they discovered was that although ideal, it was a marketing nightmare. People tasted the “new stuff” and realized that the old was a lot better than the new. Soon, people demanded the original, they wanted to good stuff! They couldn’t stomach the new formula for taste and I’m sure stock holders couldn’t stomach the drop in revenue.

Reinvention or Revival?

What was the problem? They tried to re-invent a tried and true formula for success and it didn’t work. It’s the same with the church today. I see more and more preachers today trying new ideas, new concepts, new messages, new songs; it looks good, it sounds good, but when you taste it then you are left with something that is not genuine, it’s an imitation of the original. The church today is trying it’s hardest to replace a tried and true formula, something that has worked for over a thousand years and that is the basic message of the cross.

In a day when the church is trying to look as much as possible like the world, where we dress like the world, talk like the world, are entertained by the world, how can we even begin to fulfill the great commission? The very idea of being holy, separate, and pure, is counter to the real goal of “reaching the world”. Yet, we are doing it trying to be relevant at the cost of our very identity of a holy ghost filled church. It simply won’t work!

This is why our young people are giving in to the lie of alternative lifestyles, bi-sexuality and homosexuality, because we changed the purpose of the great commission and we didn’t stay true to the core message of the cross.

God has one method to win the world – just one. It’s the gospel through the preaching of the word. That’s it! Uno tournaments, Christian rock concerts, seminars, community activism, none of it can never or will ever become the tried and true formula that God has placed into position to win the world, it’s still the preaching of the word and nothing more.

The problem is, when we start going to bed with the world to win the world, you wake up with contamination, a spiritual STD. This is why the church today has virtually no power it once had, all because it tried to be like the world in almost every way, yet God said over and over to be less like the world and more like him. Until we realize this, the less of an impact we will have on society and the world. And God knows we need to be an impact on the world today!

When the message is about loving ourselves, there’s something wrong. When leadership begins to fall morally, there’s something wrong. When a Pastor can write a book and state that Hell no longer exists, there’s something wrong.

We must begin to shake ourselves as Samson did and realize that the enemy is all around us, we’ve slept in the lap of Delilah for too long and it’s time to wake up and loose the bindings on us. The world is in chaos, the world is hurting, it’s looking for something that is true, tested, sure and not been re-invented. It’s looking for the gospel.

We must return to a faithful prayer life. Give ourselves over to fasting at times as well as getting back into the word of God. A faithful dedication to reading our Bibles, studying the scriptures daily, is the only true means of success the church can assure a positive and healthy life.

We must be willing to denounce our sins, our pride and arrogance which has brought us false teachings and corrupt ideas. When we remove the leaven in our lives, we’ll begin to see God’s healing within us.

I believe in the coming years God is going to wake his church and then the greatest revival of evangelism will occur, but we need to start preparing and part of that is going back to what is true and good, the old paths, the old ways.

I’ve tried the new Coke and you can have it, give me that old stuff, the good stuff. It might sound cliche’ but that old time religion was good enough for my parents, it’s good enough for me.

25 years ago: Dr. Walter Martin, Andy Comiskey take on progay clerics

Apprising Ministries blog put up four phenomenal videos from 1986 which show a couple of gay christian clerics unable to defend their theology. Watching them, its clear that little has changed over the last 25 years except that they have become more sophisticated in how they explain their falsehoods and half truths. These four videos provide you with a stunning instructional look at just how shallow these people are.

Thanks also to Apprising Ministries for recognizing that the gay christian movement is a significant contemporary threat to the internal spiritual health of today’s church. And like GCM Watch, AM called attention to the so-called emergent church’s collusion with the gcm. GCM Watch is extremely disappointed at the larger apologetics sites for neglecting to provide more ongoing teaching on this. We contacted several of them but they seem to believe that gcm theology is so preposterous (as one person told me) no one would believe it. What a gross misjudgment.

The videos are from pioneer talk show host June Cain Miller, featuring Dr. Walter Martin (who died 3 years after this), gay MCC cleric Rev Brad Anderson (who later died of AIDS), Rev. Wayne Christiansen (now pastor of a progay Lutheran church) anda young  Andy Comiskey who founded Desert Streams Ministry and the Living Waters Program.

The exchanges are fascinating to watch as Dr. Martin reveals the shallow fallacy of homosexual religion. Historically, he notes there existed no protestant, catholic and orthodox belief which sanctioned homosexual religion. That concept was born and advanced largely through the work of gay christian theologian John Boswell.

Martin said “Gays can be religious and there are gays that are Christians,…but they are non practicing, just like there are adulterers and fornicators who are christian but theyre not practicing. So a gay can be a Christian if they are not practicing immorality.”

Martin comment seems to suggest agreement with the new gay christian argument which allows a person to claim a gay identity but not practice homosexual sexual activity. Exodus President Alan Chamber recently addressed that.

When the gay pastor attempts to make the issue one of relative normality, Comiskey corrects him with a quick lesson on God’s intent. I love how Comiskey explains that God’s perspective is soterical, not merely prohibitional. God blocks justification of sin so that the sinner can see his need for the saving blood of Jesus Christ. However, both of the progay reverends continue to throw up strawmen arguments, evasive answers, red herrings, half truths and emotional sidebars that are embarrasing to listen to. The exchanges reminded me of the panel I participated on in Greensboro, NC.

We’ve contended for sometime that the arguments of the gcm are inherently circular and are up against a wall in terms of honesty, integrity and legitimacy. All lies create other lies to sustain themselves but eventually will come to a dead end. Literally.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Rev 21:8

Religious false prophets rush to defend SOTUS

On Wednesday, an unusual gaggle of  “leaders across the ideological spectrum”  released an open letter type statement rebuking anyone who questions the so-called “faith” of the Saviour of the United States (SOTUS). The Democratic party aligned media agency hired by the “70 prominent religious leaders” contends that anyone who questions whether Barack Obama is a real Christian is misrepresenting his faith.  The letter wanted to make the point that [the president’s] faith isn’t a political matter. I beg to differ.

What’s even more outrageous is the demand to prohibit the free speech rights of any American who may question Obama’s religious teleprompter faith.

“…we urge public officials, faith leaders, and the media to offer no further support or airtime to those who misrepresent and call into question the President’s Christian faith.”

Among the signatories: Bishop TD JakesBrian McLauren, Kirbyjon Caldwell and Rev. Chuck Currie,

obama_saviorAs Christian leaders— whose primary responsibility is sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with our congregations, our communities, and our world— we are deeply troubled by the recent questioning of President Obama’s faith. We understand that these are contentious times, but the personal faith of our leaders should not be up for public debate.

President Obama has been unwavering in confessing Christ as Lord and has spoken often about the importance of his Christian faith.  Many of the signees on this letter have prayed and worshipped with this President.  We believe that questioning, and especially misrepresenting, the faith of a confessing believer goes too far.

This is not a political issue. The signers of this letter come from different political and ideological backgrounds, but we are unified in our belief in Jesus Christ.  As Christian pastors and leaders, we believe that fellow Christians need to be an encouragement to those who call Christ their savior, not question the veracity of their faith.

Therefore, we urge public officials, faith leaders, and the media to offer no further support or airtime to those who misrepresent and call into question the President’s Christian faith.  And we join with the President in praying that God will continue to bless the United States of America.

Let’s talk about misrepresentation

When Obama misrepresented the Arizona immigration law by saying if he and his daughter went out for ice cream he could be arrested, these pansy yes men released no statement.

When Obama misrepresented the Bible by saying that Romans 1 was an obscure passage, these hypocrites released no letter correcting him.

When Obama misrepresented God’s intent for marriage by promoting homosexual marriage as “just as real and admirable as relationships between a man and a woman”, none of these whitewashed leaders released any letters condemning SOTUS gross statement.obamakiss

When Obama said he had written off the Bible’s condemnation of homosexuality as “worn arguments and old attitudes”, we heard not one single objection from the religious leaders.

When Obama misrepresented the facts about the excessively high number of death by abortion in the black community, these false prophets released no letter.

When Obama misrepresented fatherhood by saying two homosexual men are legitimate fathers, not a peep out of the so called religious leaders.

Obama has even misrepresented himself (aka lying)!

But as soon as someone says something about the fake saviors’ fake faith, the false prophets rush to his defense. So let’s sum this up. Obama can wantonly misrepresent whatever he wants (including God and the Bible), but these false prophets say no one can misrepresent him because his faith is “off limits”? We all know what this is. Its another practice drill for the arrival of the antichrist.

The Eleison Group, a media propaganda agency used by the religious leaders, claims it mission is to “create dialogue, relationships, and common ground in an effort to make our nation and world a better place.” One look at their clients and projects and its clear that their mission is to push political religion which the bible calls a form of godliness that denies the power thereof.

People have a legitimate right to question any president’s public declarations of  the religious nature. Why is Obama exempt? Over and over he’s preached to the nation, lectured us on what the bible says ( from his progay-black liberation theology point of view), and couched his unpopular policies behind cherry picked scriptures.  He has, without question, done much more for the religion of death and violence (Islam) while sabotaging and deriding his own so called faith. And so, we are not supposed to question whether its right or wrong? We’re just supposed to shuffle our feet, give a big watermelon grin and pray for his continued success?

Contemporary churchianity: kool foolz can drool

Does that headline make sense? If not, good. Mission accomplished. This is a must read from author Brett McCracken on the utter foolishness the contemporary church is engaging in to get sheeple in the door. The hip, in the now makeover of church and christianity (churchianity) is in full effect [source]:

‘How can we stop the oil gusher?” may have been the question of the summer for most Americans. Yet for many evangelical pastors and leaders, the leaking well is nothing compared to the threat posed by an ongoing gusher of a different sort: Young people pouring out of their churches, never to return.

As a 27-year-old evangelical myself, I understand the concern. My peers, many of whom grew up in the church, are losing interest in the Christian establishment.

Recent statistics have shown an increasing exodus of young people from churches, especially after they leave home and live on their own. In a 2007 study, Lifeway Research determined that 70% of young Protestant adults between 18-22 stop attending church regularly.

Statistics like these have created something of a mania in recent years, as baby-boomer evangelical leaders frantically assess what they have done wrong (why didn’t megachurches work to attract youth in the long term?) and scramble to figure out a plan to keep young members engaged in the life of the church.

Increasingly, the “plan” has taken the form of a total image overhaul, where efforts are made to rebrand Christianity as hip, countercultural, relevant. As a result, in the early 2000s, we got something called “the emerging church”—a sort of postmodern stab at an evangelical reform movement. Perhaps because it was too “let’s rethink everything” radical, it fizzled quickly. But the impulse behind it—to rehabilitate Christianity’s image and make it “cool”—remains.

rpchurch signCan you imagine Jesus saying to the 12 apostles, “hey after I leave I want you guys to give this thing an image overhaul. Make sure you delete any references to suffering, obedience, discipline, responsibility, accountability, and righteousness. And for Pete’s sake dont mention anything about faithfulness to my word! People will think we’re some sort of legalism obsessed cult!”

Well its almost as if that sentiment leads off the New Testament. McCracken blasts pastors and leaders for using every gimmick, trick, fad, techno-wizbang and buzzwords they possibly can in order to be seen as “attractive”. Oh and they add a generous helping of sex talk to be seen as real edgy. It reminds me of that emergent church foolishness that keeps trying to gain a foothold.

Why not just do what Jesus (the founder and head of the church) said do? Here’s a refresher course in case its been forgotten.

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matt 28:16-20

But observers say the shindiggin aint workin. People with problems want real Godly solutions, not toys, games and funsy words. People are not  pre-k children to be entertained into oblivion.

In his book, “The Courage to Be Protestant,” David Wells writes:”The born-again, marketing church has calculated that unless it makes deep, serious cultural adaptations, it will go out of business, especially with the younger generations. What it has not considered carefully enough is that it may well be putting itself out of business with God.

“And the further irony,” he adds, “is that the younger generations who are less impressed by whiz-bang technology, who often see through what is slick and glitzy, and who have been on the receiving end of enough marketing to nauseate them, are as likely to walk away from these oh-so-relevant churches as to walk into them.”
